The match, played at the Euroborg stadium, saw an early chance for Van der Werff that was saved, followed by a disallowed off‑side goal from newcomer Pelle Clement. The decisive goal came in the 13th minute from a corner taken by Van der Werff, which appeared to glance off a Spanish defender before finding the net.
