FC Hermannstadt withdraws from Liga 2, CSM Olimpia Satu Mare takes its spot
One day before the start of the 2026/27 Liga 2 season, FC Hermannstadt announced that it would withdraw from the competition. The club, which had been relegated from the SuperLiga and was struggling with insolvency and loss of TV revenue, informed the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) of its decision. The FRF Emergency Committee approved the replacement of the vacant place with CSM Olimpia Satu Mare, stating: “Comitetul de Urgență al FRF aprobă ocuparea locului vacant apărut în Liga a 2‑a, ca urmare a retragerii clubului FC Hermannstadt.”
The withdrawal forced a reshuffle of the opening round schedule. The match originally scheduled between CSC Dumbrăvița and FC Hermannstadt was cancelled and will be replayed as CSC Dumbrăvița vs CSM Olimpia Satu Mare at a later date. Other clubs, such as ASA Târgu Mureș, noted the vacancy in FRF communications. Player Ionuț Stoica confirmed the news, saying he was “anunțați de desființarea echipei.” The change leaves CSM Olimpia Satu Mare, a team recently relegated to Liga 3, to compete in Liga 2 for the upcoming season.
