FC Ingolstadt expands U21 coaching staff and plans offensive signings

FC Ingolstadt 04 has appointed defender Niklas‑Wilson Sommer as a playing co‑coach for its U21 team starting in the 2026/27 season. Sommer, 28, brings experience from the youth and senior levels, having been trained at 1. FC Nürnberg, played for VfB Stuttgart’s U19, TSV Sonneberg, DAC Dunajská Streda in Slovakia and SV Waldhof Mannheim, and appeared in 63 3. Liga matches.

The club’s senior squad, after adding eight new players, is close to completion but still seeks an additional offensive signing, particularly a forward to partner Benjamin Kanuric. To avoid exceeding a 31‑player roster, manager Rigo Hof plans to loan out some players before the transfer deadline on 1 September. Hof praised the team’s discipline and cohesion ahead of upcoming friendlies against 1. FC Heidenheim and Würzburger Kickers.
