FC Lahti‑HJK match sparks near‑50 person brawl in Lahti
After the Finnish Cup match between FC Lahti and HJK at the Toolpoint Areena, a large-scale confrontation broke out among supporters outside the venue. Police recorded six crime reports and arrested roughly 48 individuals, many of whom were Finnish but also included one citizen each from Liechtenstein, Poland, Italy and Austria. Participants were reported to be masked, threw objects and ignited pyrotechnic flares; the clash was not pre‑arranged according to authorities.
The incident prompted internal police review of security deployment, noting that the high‑risk nature of the fixture was recognised but that the placement of patrols near the popular fan gathering spot, the "Iloinen Kulkija" bar, was insufficient. Both FC Lahti and HJK publicly condemned the violence, pledged full cooperation with investigators and affirmed a zero‑tolerance policy toward fan aggression.
