Swiss rail services disrupted by FC Zürich supporters

FC Zürich supporters caused significant disruptions to Swiss rail services on Saturday while traveling to an away match against FC Sion. Approximately 1,000 fans triggered fire alarms on two Intercity trains, leading to the cancellation of services from Bern and causing delays across the network.

The incidents occurred on the IC1 line between Zurich and Bern, as well as at Bern station. SBB, the Swiss federal railway, condemned the behavior “with the utmost firmness” and stated they would work with police and authorities to investigate the events.

The match between FC Sion and FC Zürich was moved forward from 20:30 to 18:00 to ensure fans could return home via public transport, as SBB no longer provides special fan trains outside of regular schedules due to construction and resource constraints.

In the match itself, FC Sion and FC Zürich played to a 1:1 draw. Despite being reduced to ten players early in the game, Sion managed to secure a point through a penalty by Winsley Boteli.
