FC Porto and Sporting CP win preseason matches as Portuguese clubs gear up for new season
FC Porto defeated Aston Villa 2‑1 at the Estádio do Dragão, with Pepê scoring before halftime, and later beat Liga 3 side São João de Ver 2‑1 in a closed‑door game, giving playing time to squad members. The victories were highlighted by coach Francesco Farioli’s rotation policy ahead of the upcoming Supertaça against Torreense.
Sporting CP won the Troféu Cinco Violinos, beating Monaco 2‑0 at Estádio José Alvalade, thanks to goals from Rafael Nel and new signing Jesse Derry. After the match, the team trained at the Cristiano Ronaldo Academy, integrating five World Cup players while Belgian international Debast continued a personalized rehabilitation program. Sporting’s next fixture is scheduled against Nottingham Forest.
Both clubs are using these preseason fixtures to test new signings and prepare for the 2026/27 campaign.
