FC Porto wins Supertaça as Jan Bednarek sustains knee injury

FC Porto defeated second‑division side SCU Torreense 1‑0 in the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira, securing the club’s 25th Supertaça and raising its total trophy count to 88. The winning goal was scored by Danish midfielder Victor Froholdt in the 38th minute at the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra.

Polish centre‑back Jan Bednarek left the field at halftime after suffering a sprain of the internal lateral ligament in his right knee. The injury was attributed to the poor condition of the pitch, which both the player and Porto coach Francesco Farioli criticised. Bednarek is expected to miss at least two weeks, possibly up to a month, while the club considers a formal complaint to the Portuguese Football Federation over the playing surface.

Coach Farioli praised the team’s performance but highlighted the dangerous state of the turf, saying it was “unacceptable to play a final on such a surface.” The victory marks Porto’s continued dominance in Portuguese football, overtaking Benfica in total titles.
