FC Schalke 04: Former executive reveals Veltins-Arena construction details

Former FC Schalke 04 executive Peter Peters has provided new insights into the construction of the Veltins-Arena, marking 25 years since its opening. Peters revealed that the club almost considered building the stadium in a different city than Gelsenkirchen.

The project involved construction costs of approximately 195 million euros and was supported by a state guarantee of roughly 100 million euros. Peters discussed the challenges of convincing a banking consortium to fund the project, noting that the club was perceived in the mid-1990s as being unable to manage such a large-scale undertaking without public funds.

The arena currently holds approximately 62,000 spectators for Bundesliga matches.
