FC Schalke 04 to play Ukrainian side FC Kharkiv in pre‑season friendly
Germany's newly promoted Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04 will open its training‑camp schedule with a test match on 22 July against Ukrainian Premier League club FC Kharkiv. The game is set for 16:00 at the Melach Road stadium in Kematen, Tirol, Austria.
FC Kharkiv, which was re‑established after the original Metalist Kharkiv lost its licence in 2016, currently hosts its home fixtures in Kyiv because of the Russian invasion. The Ukrainian side finished fifth in its league last season and is valued at roughly €25.05 million, while Schalke's squad market value is estimated at €59.70 million following its promotion.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky and SchalkeTVplus. New signing Robin Gosens is expected to make his first appearance in Schalke’s subsequent friendly against Japanese club Fagiano Okayama.
