FC Seoul wins K League 1 title after 10-year drought
FC Seoul has secured the 2026 K League 1 championship, marking their seventh title and their first league victory since 2016. The club clinched the title with five matches remaining in the season following a 1-1 draw against Gangwon FC at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Despite the draw, Seoul maintained a 16-point lead over second-place Ulsan HD, who also drew their match against Pohang Steelers. Under the leadership of head coach Kim Gi-dong, who took charge in 2024, the team has demonstrated dominant form, boasting the league's strongest offense with 61 goals and the most resilient defense with only 29 goals conceded.
Key contributors to the championship run include striker Patryk Klimala, who has recorded 16 goals, and Moon Seon-min, who scored in the decisive match against Gangwon. The victory ends a period of dominance by Jeonbuk Hyundai and Ulsan HD, returning FC Seoul to the top of South Korean football.
