FC Sion unveils €490 million Cervin Coliseum stadium project
FC Sion has unveiled the Cervin Coliseum, an ambitious €490 million stadium project designed to replace the club's historic Estádio de Tourbillon. Part of the ‘Sion 2030’ strategic plan, the new arena is intended to serve as a year-round tourism and leisure hub in the Valais canton.
The most striking feature of the design is a red panoramic roller coaster that will wind around the exterior of the stadium, offering visitors views of the pitch and the surrounding Alps. The architecture is inspired by the mountain landscape, featuring a rounded shape reminiscent of a large stone and a retractable roof designed to withstand heavy snow and high winds.
The complex will include an 80-room hotel, a luxury restaurant, 72 private boxes, and over 2,800 VIP seats. While the stadium will hold approximately 15,000 to 21,000 spectators for football matches, it can accommodate up to 32,500 people for concerts. The facility also plans to include 7,500 square meters of entertainment space featuring arcade games and virtual reality. The project has been submitted to the authorities in Valais and the city of Sion for technical feasibility assessments, with public consultations expected in mid-2027.
