FC St. Pauli and Rot-Weiss Essen fans clash amid political tensions

Tensions between supporters of FC St. Pauli and Rot-Weiss Essen escalated during a recent cup match in Essen. The rivalry is characterized by significant political friction, with St. Pauli's ultra group identified as left-wing and members of the Rot-Weiss Essen scene making accusations of far-right affiliations.

Reports indicated that a planned confrontation between approximately 100 supporters from each side did not take place, despite rumors of a pre-arranged fight. Prior to the match, images circulated of a tram in Hamburg defaced with anti-St. Pauli graffiti attributed to the ‘Rude Fans’ ultra group of Rot-Weiss Essen. During the game, St. Pauli supporters directed verbal insults toward the home fans, while some Essen supporters wore shirts expressing hostility toward the visiting team.
