FC Twente leadership discusses club culture and Dutch player development

FC Twente technical director Erik ten Hag and former player Ricky van Wolfswinkel have commented on the current state and direction of the club and Dutch football development.

Van Wolfswinkel suggested that FC Twente could potentially finish higher in the Eredivisie than AZ Alkmaar. He noted significant changes at the club following the arrival of Erik ten Hag, specifically regarding the work culture and squad composition. While some analysts predict a top-four finish for clubs like PSV, Ajax, AZ, and Feyenoord, Van Wolfswinkel believes Twente's improving form could disrupt those rankings if the club successfully balances its new professional culture with the players' needs.

Separately, Erik ten Hag expressed concern regarding the training of attacking players in the Netherlands. He noted that while the country previously struggled to produce defenders, there is now a perceived lack of specialized attackers. Pointing to the success of Norwegian football in producing high-quality forwards, Ten Hag argued that the Netherlands must improve its focus on specialized attacking skills to remain competitive.
