Ferencváros beats Twente 2‑1 in Europa League qualifier
On 23 July 2026, Ferencváros visited FC Twente’s De Grolsch Veste in Enschede for the first leg of the UEFA Europa League second‑qualifying round. The Hungarian side took the lead in the 14th minute when Lenny Joseph scored, and Twente equalised through Aske Adelgaard in the 38th minute. After a tight second half, Joseph added a second goal in the 80th minute to secure a 2‑1 victory. Goalkeeper Dénes Dibusz made several crucial saves, including a reflex stop from Ørjasæter in the 59th minute.
Twente debuted new striker Wout Weghorst, who expressed disappointment with the result despite his early involvement, and midfielder Ramiz Zerrouki also started. Coach John van den Brom noted the need to improve after a “painful” start. Ferencváros coach Balázs Borbély highlighted the advantage of already having played two competitive matches, compared with Twente’s season‑opening fixtures.
The aggregate winner will face the losers of the Fenerbahçe‑Górnik Zabrze Champions League clash in the third qualifying round, while the loser drops into the Conference League. The return leg is scheduled for next Thursday in Budapest’s Groupama Arena.
