FCC issues rulings on radio spectrum and station compliance

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued several regulatory rulings regarding radio frequency allocations and station compliance.

Chavez Media has been ordered to cease operations of 93.9 KRIT in Parker, Arizona, by January 21, 2027, if it fails to complete a move to 92.7. The FCC noted that Chavez has failed to implement the requested channel change for over 20 years, stating that the “continued warehousing of this spectrum by Chavez in the face of Estrella’s longstanding competing demand is plainly contrary to the public interest.”

In Michigan, the FCC has moved a vacant Class A allocation in Whitehall to the 99.5 FM frequency following an engineering review that identified short-spacing conflicts with existing stations on the previous 97.5 frequency. This follows the cancellation of the Cumulus-owned WLAW(FM) license during a bankruptcy process.

Additionally, Vazquez Broadcasting Corporation received a Notice of Violation for its station 1480 WSDS in Ypsilanti, Michigan, due to issues including improper EAS monitoring, unauthorized power levels, and non-operational equipment. The FCC also announced several new FM Table of Allotments in Colorado, Florida, and Louisiana.
