FCC moves to revoke drone approvals and consider import ban on foreign military drones

The Federal Communications Commission has initiated its first revocation proceeding against Odyssey Robot LLC, accusing the Delaware‑incorporated firm of falsifying domestic manufacturing claims to skirt the agency's December 2025 ban on foreign‑produced drones. An Order to Show Cause issued on July 21, 2026, requires Odyssey to justify why its equipment authorizations should not be withdrawn.

Separately, the FCC has tentatively decided to prohibit the import of certain foreign‑made military‑grade drones, including swarming and infrared‑capable models, while extending limited exemptions until January 2028. The proposed rule, subject to a 30‑day public comment period, would not affect drones purchased by the U.S. government or non‑military drones. DJI, the world's largest drone maker, has filed a lawsuit challenging the import restrictions. Both actions reflect the FCC's expanded national‑security authority over the U.S. drone market.
