FCE Yola Provost calls for upgrade to Federal University of Education
Dr. Mohammed Usman Degereji, the Provost of the Federal College of Education (FCE) Yola, has appealed to the Nigerian federal government to upgrade the institution to a Federal University of Education. Speaking during the institution's 16th combined convocation, Degereji argued that the transition would provide university status to its degrees, expand student enrollment, and increase staff capacity.
The convocation ceremony recognized 3,555 graduates from the 2024 and 2025 academic sessions. Degereji noted that since its establishment in 1974, the institution has maintained a record of producing quality teachers and currently holds a dual mandate to award both degrees and Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE).
Minister of Education Dr. Mourufu Alausa attended the event, stating that the current administration views education as a fundamental pillar of national development. Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, represented by Deputy Governor Prof. Kalerapwa Farauta, also expressed support for federal tertiary institutions and highlighted state-level investments in teacher training and scholarship programs.
