Füchse Berlin win opening Club World Championship match against Burgan SC
Füchse Berlin opened their campaign at the handball Club World Championship (Super Globe) in Cairo, Egypt, with a dominant 38:18 victory over Kuwaiti side Burgan SC. The German cup winners controlled the match from the early stages, leading 10:3 within seven and a half minutes.
Due to the significant lead, coach Nicolej Krickau rotated his squad extensively to rest key players. World handball star Mathias Gidsel was substituted after only 19 minutes and four goals. Top scorers for Berlin included Aymeric Zaepfel with ten goals and Tim Freihöfer with nine. Substitute goalkeeper Frederik Höler was also noted for his performance, saving seven of his first nine shots.
Burgan SC, the Asian club champions, struggled against the German side despite featuring experienced players like Japanese star Kosuke Yasuhira. Füchse Berlin's next group stage match is scheduled against Veszprém HC of Hungary.
