The Fédération Congolaise de Football Association (Fécofa) has announced a major restructuring of the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 football championships. This reorganization was communicated via an official circular released on September 10.

Under the new Ligue 1 format, 25 clubs will participate in a group stage consisting of Group A (13 clubs) and Group B (12 clubs). At the end of this phase, the bottom four teams will be automatically relegated to Ligue 2. The remaining 17 teams are scheduled to be joined by three promoted teams from Ligue 2 for the 2027-2028 season, forming a direct 20-team championship.

Ligue 2 will undergo significant changes as well, featuring 58 teams divided into three development zones. This group includes eight relegated teams from Ligue 1, 11 provincial champions, and 39 clubs from the previous season. Following the season, the bottom six teams from each zone (18 total) will be relegated to their respective provincial leagues. Promotion to Ligue 2 will now require 11 provincial champions to compete in playoffs, with only the winners of the development zones earning access to the championship next season.
