FCT Civil Service Commission begins exams for 10,700 staff
Approximately 10,700 civil servants in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration have begun the 2026 promotion examination in Abuja. The exercise, organized by the FCT Civil Service Commission, is intended to clear a backlog of outstanding promotions inherited since the Commission became operational in 2024.
Emeka Ezeh, Chairman of the Commission, stated that clearing these backlogs will allow the administration to return to a standard annual promotion cycle starting in 2027. The initiative follows directives from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda for the civil service.
To improve the examination process and prevent previous issues such as overcrowding and technical glitches, the Commission has implemented new measures. These include starting examinations earlier, utilizing generators to ensure a steady power supply instead of relying solely on the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), and issuing examination cards on a first-come, first-served basis.
