FCT Police accused of demanding N450,000 fee to report fraud

Social commentator Timothy Gabriel has accused officers of the FCT Police Command of demanding a N450,000 mobilisation fee to investigate a fraud case.

The incident occurred at the Garki police station in Abuja. Gabriel reported that he accompanied a friend to file a complaint against a mechanic who allegedly defrauded the individual of N1 million by providing an old vehicle gearbox instead of a new one.

Gabriel criticized the demand, noting that the requested fee represents nearly half of the total amount being recovered. He highlighted that the Inspector General of Police has previously stated that demanding such fees for criminal investigations is illegal.
