FCT Police Command investigates extortion and arrests robbery gang

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command in Abuja has launched investigations into two separate criminal matters. Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi has ordered a probe into allegations of extortion following a viral social media video. While the Command noted that the receipt shown in the video is dated May 19, 2025, suggesting the incident may predate the current administration, an investigation is underway to establish the facts and address claims of unprofessionalism.

In a separate operation, FCT police arrested eight suspected members of a ‘one-chance’ robbery and kidnapping syndicate. The arrests followed a distress report from a woman, the wife of a police officer, who was robbed of her valuables and had funds transferred from her account after boarding a taxi. Using digital tracking technology, investigators traced electronic transactions and the victim’s mobile phone to apprehend the suspects. Authorities recovered 21 mobile phones and three laptops, noting that one suspect allegedly specialized in altering IMEI numbers to evade detection.
