FCT Police Command transfers drug suspects to NDLEA
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, has initiated several measures to improve law enforcement operations and inter-agency cooperation in Abuja.
In a collaborative effort to combat drug-related crime, the FCT Police Command handed over recovered illicit drugs and arrested suspects to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). CP Sanusi emphasized that while the police can investigate drug offenses, maintaining synergy with the NDLEA is essential due to the agency's specific statutory mandate for drug-related prosecution.
Separately, during a supervisory tour of the Metro and Life Camp Area Commands, CP Sanusi issued a directive to Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) prohibiting the detention of suspects beyond 24 hours without a valid court warrant or lawful authority. He also stressed the importance of professionalism, discipline, and respect for public rights, presenting kits to personnel to encourage a professional appearance and awarding excellence to the DPOs of the Central and Life Camp police stations.
