FCT Police Initiate Trial of Officers Over ICPC Chairman Extortion

Commissioner of the Federal Capital Territory Police, Ahmed Sanusi, ordered an orderly‑room trial for four officers—ASP Clement Ehigala, ASP Sunday Okpe, Inspector Samuel Onoja and Sergeant Yakubu Emmanuel—after they abandoned their assigned posts and set up an unauthorised traffic checkpoint at Banex Plaza Junction in Wuse II, Abuja, on 11 July 2026.

The officers are accused of stopping a motorist, alleging a traffic violation, and extorting ₦52,000 from the victim, identified as Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Following the complaint, the officers were arrested and placed under disciplinary proceedings in line with police regulations. The command reiterated its commitment to professionalism, accountability and zero tolerance for misconduct within the force.
