FCTA begins Basic Life Support training for health workers

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has launched a four-day Basic Life Support (BLS) training program for health workers across seven hospitals in the territory. The initiative aims to strengthen emergency response capabilities and reduce preventable deaths by equipping medical staff with skills to provide life-saving interventions during critical medical emergencies.

The training is certified by the American Heart Association and follows the National Council on Health’s approval for the National BLS Training Programme. Participating hospitals include Asokoro, Maitama, Wuse, Gwarinpa, Kuje, Kubwa, and Nyanya.

Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, stated that the administration is also working to establish ‘Code Blue Teams’ across FCT hospitals to ensure patients receive immediate, urgent attention. Participants are expected to share their acquired knowledge with colleagues and the public through the National Community CPR Initiative.
