The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has appointed four permanent senior leaders at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The move aims to provide stability to the agency following a period of high-profile departures and controversy.

Michael Davis, who had been serving in an acting capacity, has been named director of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. Davis previously led the FDA’s psychiatric drug division and will now oversee the review of upcoming psychedelic drugs, such as psilocybin and MDMA, a priority noted by the Trump administration and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy.

Karim Mikhail has been appointed as the permanent director of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research. Additionally, the agency named Jared Seehafer as its inaugural deputy commissioner for technology and artificial intelligence, and Bret Koplow as the director of the Center for Tobacco Products.
