Authorities in Navi Mumbai have uncovered a systematic food relabeling racket operating out of a warehouse run by Sadhana Enterprises. During a six-day investigation conducted between August 24 and 29, 2026, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Navi Mumbai Police Crime Branch seized nearly 5,000 cartons of food products valued at approximately $80,000 (roughly 75 lakh rupees).

Investigators found that the operation involved using chemical solvents to erase original manufacturing and expiry dates from branded products. Computer-operated printing equipment and specially prepared stickers were then used to apply falsified dates and altered nutritional information. Some products were even found with future-dated manufacturing labels. The scheme allegedly targeted major global brands, including Nestle’s Maggi, PepsiCo’s Lay’s and Kurkure, Coca-Cola products, and Unilever’s Knorr and Hellmann’s.

The seized stock, which included many items that were already expired or nearing expiration, was reportedly intended for export through 10 to 19 different exporters. The FDA has suspended the license of Sadhana Enterprises, and an FIR has been registered under the Food Safety and Standards Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
