FDM proposes halving vehicle taxes for Danish petrol and diesel drivers
The Danish motorists' organization FDM has proposed a temporary halving of the semi-annual vehicle tax for petrol and diesel car owners to alleviate the financial pressure caused by high fuel prices.
FDM calculations indicate that by 2026, drivers traveling 20,000 km annually will face additional costs of over 3,200 DKK for petrol and 4,000 DKK for diesel. FDM CEO Stina Glavind noted that while previous increases to the commuting deduction helped long-distance commuters, two-thirds of Danish driving is not related to commuting.
The organization argues that a tax reduction is a quick and easy way to support more than two million drivers who cannot yet afford to switch to electric vehicles, without undermining long-term green transition goals.
