FDR challenges government in Supreme Court over electoral code violations

The Front pour la Défense de la Démocratie et de la République (FDR) has filed a legal challenge with the Supreme Court, accusing the government of violating the electoral code. The opposition movement, led by new coordinator Modou Diagne Fada, claims the authorities are failing to respect legal provisions regarding the organization of upcoming territorial elections.

A primary point of contention is the delay in several electoral process stages, which the FDR argues infringes upon citizens' rights to elect local representatives. Specifically, the opposition noted that the Minister of the Interior and Public Security failed to issue the decree fixing the election deposit amount by the August 20, 2026, deadline.

The FDR characterizes these delays as a “de facto postponement” of the elections, which they maintain should take place no later than January 17, 2027. The group is seeking administrative justice to ensure the electoral process adheres to established legal timelines.
