Feast of San Gennaro celebrates 100th anniversary in Little Italy
The Feast of San Gennaro, an Italian-American patronal festival dedicated to the patron saint of Naples, is celebrating its 100th year in New York City’s Little Italy. The annual event takes place every September and has grown from a small one-day block party held by Neapolitan immigrants in 1926 into an 11-day celebration.
The festival centers on Mulberry Street, with vendors occupying the stretch between Canal and Houston Streets, as well as parts of Hester and Grand Streets. The event features a polychrome statue of San Gennaro carried through the streets, alongside Italian music, parades, and over 300 vendors offering traditional foods such as sausages, peppers, zeppole, cannolis, and seafood.
Operating daily from 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., with extended hours on weekends, the festival is a major cultural landmark that has been featured in various media, including film and television.
