Febrie Adriansyah investigation tests Attorney General's Office integrity

The investigation into former Attorney General's Office Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah, regarding alleged money laundering, has drawn scrutiny from legal experts.

Criminal law expert Azmi Syahputra from Universitas Trisakti views the handling of the case as a critical test of the Attorney General's Office's commitment to transparency and independence. He suggests that prosecuting its own officials demonstrates that institutional integrity and the principle of equality before the law take precedence over corporate solidarity.

However, Professor Jamin Ginting of Universitas Pelita Harapan has raised concerns regarding procedural integrity. He argues that while investigators have the authority to name a suspect based on sufficient evidence, the process must respect human rights. Ginting suggests that failing to examine an individual as a witness before elevating their status to a suspect may violate procedural rights and hinder the individual's ability to prepare a legal defense.
