FECOMEX warns of rising costs for IMSS subcontracted daycares
The Federation of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Mexico (FECOMEX) has raised concerns regarding the financial sustainability of subcontracted daycares operating under the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).
According to data from the National Working Group of Subcontracted Daycares, operating costs for these centers surged by 121 percent between 2018 and 2024, while the per-child fee increased by only 41 percent. FECOMEX President Iván Pérez Ruiz stated that rising expenses for personnel, food, maintenance, and security measures are creating constant pressure on these facilities.
FECOMEX is calling for a review of the economic and operational conditions to ensure the continuity of childcare services, which thousands of working families rely on. The organization emphasized that the expansion of Child Education and Care Centers (CECI) must be supported by technical and financial planning to prevent service interruptions.
