Fedecámaras hosts national congress to support Panamanian MIPYMES

Fedecámaras held the first National MIPYME 360 Congress in Santiago, titled ‘Transforming challenges into opportunities,’ to strengthen the role of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in Panama's economy. Alicia Jiménez, president of Fedecámaras, emphasized the need to support this sector to prevent business closures and promote sustainable growth.

Jiménez highlighted the support from Cobre Panamá for the congress, noting that such backing helps revitalize small businesses facing economic difficulties. She recalled that during the copper mine's operation, significant economic movement was generated, creating a business cluster that was later impacted by legal processes related to mining operations.

Fedecámaras has proposed a roadmap to use the Donoso mining operation as an anchor industry to boost regional development and diversify the national productive matrix. The federation aims to strengthen productive links with national MIPYMES to generate employment and citizen welfare. The proposal includes addressing challenges such as excessive bureaucracy, stagnant internal consumption, and low investment by focusing on financial education, credit access, and business model innovation.
