FEDEGÁN livestock technical tours focus on Magdalena Medio
FEDEGÁN has operated its “Giras Técnicas Ganaderas” (Livestock Technical Tours) for twenty years, a program designed to facilitate knowledge sharing among cattle ranchers. The initiative uses successful farms as open classrooms to demonstrate advancements in genetics, nutrition, pasture management, reproduction, sustainability, and business administration.
The 2026 National Technical Tour focused on the Magdalena Medio region, involving 354 ranchers from across Colombia. Participants visited successful beef and dairy enterprises to observe specialized low-tropical dairy farming, superior genetics (including Gyr, Gyrolando, Brahman Red and Grey, and Wagyu), intensive breeding and fattening systems, buffalo milk production, and food conservation strategies.
The program emphasizes a methodology of seeing, understanding, comparing, adapting, implementing, and measuring, rather than simply copying models, to account for the unique infrastructure and market conditions of individual farms.
