Fedenaga announces plan to strengthen national cattle herd

José Labrador, the newly elected president of the National Federation of Livestock Breeders (Fedenaga), has outlined a strategic plan to strengthen the national cattle herd through the 2026-2030 Master Plan. The initiative focuses on accelerating herd growth without compromising the current supply of meat and milk.

Labrador identified two primary methods for repopulation: increasing pregnancy rates in existing herds to aim for near 100% efficiency and utilizing genetic improvement. Additionally, the federation noted that private entities are currently importing female cattle to assist in these efforts.

A critical component of the recovery process involves accurate data collection. Fedenaga is currently conducting field operations to characterize the herd, identifying the number of females, calves, and buffaloes to establish a precise baseline for future growth and management.
