Federació Llull set to become European transnational body for Catalan‑speaking regions
The cultural federation Federació Llull, comprising Òmnium Cultural, Acció Cultural del País Valencià and Obra Cultural Balear, has agreed to transform into a new European transnational organization that will operate across the Catalan‑speaking territories. The decision was formalised at a meeting in the Monastery of Poblet, which also marked the 750th anniversary of King Jaume I’s death.
The new structure aims to strengthen coordination, resilience and joint action in defence of the Catalan language, culture and civil‑political rights. It plans to extend its activity beyond the Principality of Catalonia, the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands to include Andorra, the Catalan fringe in France (Franja de Ponent and Catalunya Nord) and the city of Alghero (L'Alguer) in Italy, with the organisation expected to be constituted by 2027.
Xavier Antich, president of Òmnium Cultural, will serve as president of the federation for the next two years, assisted by vice‑president Anna Oliver and secretary‑treasurer Antoni Llabrés.
