Federación Agraria Argentina holds 112th Annual Congress in Rosario
The Federación Agraria Argentina (FAA) has commenced its 112th Annual Ordinary Congress in Rosario. The event, themed ‘Somos voces que transforman’ (We are voices that transform), brought together various agricultural leaders, including Santa Fe Governor Maximiliano Pullaro and National Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries Sergio Iraeta.
During her opening address, FAA President Andrea Sarnari called for a comprehensive tax reform to support small and medium-sized producers. She specifically addressed the issue of export retentions, describing them as regressive and distortive. Sarnari advocated for any reduction in these taxes to be established by law to ensure predictability and prevent their reinstatement.
Additionally, the FAA expressed its formal opposition to Argentina joining the UPOV-91 protocol regarding seed laws. The organization proposed instead modifying seed legislation within the UPOV-78 framework to protect producer rights while allowing for innovation. The congress aims to analyze the entity's recent actions and define a future agenda focused on rural infrastructure, connectivity, and the needs of agricultural communities.
