Federal Character Commission calls for suspension of Nigeria Customs recruitment
The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has called for an immediate suspension of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) recruitment exercise. The commission cited alleged violations of federal character principles and a lack of oversight during the process.
Abdulwasiu Bawa-Allah, Chairman of the FCC’s Financial Services Committee, stated that the commission was not invited to monitor the recruitment. He noted that many candidates who completed screening, documentation, and medical examinations were not invited for training, leading to allegations of manipulation and a loss of public confidence. Bawa-Allah highlighted that some candidates had already resigned from previous jobs and incurred significant expenses in anticipation of their selection.
While the NCS acknowledged complaints in a recent statement, the FCC alleges that the service has failed to address concerns satisfactorily and has ignored correspondence regarding these issues.
