Imran Khan and family face ongoing legal and detention challenges in Pakistan
Former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan recently met with his lawyer, Salman Safdar, at Adiala Jail. The 40-minute session, which occurred after several months of restricted access, allowed Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, to provide legal instructions and discuss their health and living conditions.
Simultaneously, the legal battles involving Khan’s family continue. The Lahore High Court has directed the Lahore Deputy Commissioner to appear regarding the extended detention of Khan’s sisters, Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi, and Uzma Khan. These women are being held under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance. The court has also ordered authorities to facilitate a meeting between Noreen Niazi and her daughters following reports of heart-related complications.
In other legal developments, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has challenged a Peshawar High Court order that prevented the arrest of PTI workers. Additionally, the Islamabad High Court has scheduled a hearing for a petition seeking to allow members of the national dialogue committee to visit Imran Khan in prison, citing concerns over his health and the impact of visit bans on political stability.
