Federal District adjusts school schedules for 2026 elections

The Government of the Federal District (GDF) has amended a decree regarding school operations during the 2026 elections. Under the revised rules, private schools that are not designated as voting locations are permitted to maintain their regular academic calendars and classes on the Fridays preceding the first and second election rounds (October 2 and 23).

Public schools and private institutions that serve as polling stations will continue to have classes suspended on those dates. For public schools, the Secretariat of Education will establish guidelines for making up lost instructional hours, while private schools serving as voting sites have the autonomy to determine their own makeup schedules. Daycare centers (creches) will remain unaffected and will maintain their normal routines regardless of their status as voting sites.

In Ubatuba, local education authorities are coordinating logistics to prepare 27 municipal schools and several state and private units to serve as polling stations for the 2026 elections, ensuring spaces are organized for electoral teams.
