Federal employees attacked by protesters in downtown Los Angeles

Two off-duty federal detention officers were attacked and beaten by a group of protesters in downtown Los Angeles on a Saturday night. The incident occurred near the Metropolitan Detention Center, an area that has frequently been a site for demonstrations targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), a crowd of approximately 40 to 50 anti-ICE demonstrators followed the employees to a parking structure on East Commercial Street. The group “suddenly and deliberately” jumped the workers, striking them multiple times. In one instance, at least five individuals entered an elevator with the pair and assaulted one officer.

Both federal employees were hospitalized with unknown conditions. LAPD officers responded to 911 calls and arrested two suspects. Detectives are currently investigating the assault as felony and misdemeanor battery.
