Federal Funding Boosts Early Childhood Education Training in Kamloops, Canada

The Government of Canada is providing $253,000 through WorkBC’s Community and Employer Partnerships program to launch a 57‑week early childhood education workforce entry project in Kamloops. The funding, part of the Canada‑British Columbia Labour Market Development Agreement, will support 10‑12 participants with classroom instruction, workplace preparation, supervised practicum placements and follow‑up career development.

The Kamloops‑Cariboo Regional Immigrants Society will deliver the program, aiming to remove barriers for newcomers and residents seeking skilled jobs in the childcare sector. Federal Minister Patty Hajdu said affordable child care is “critical social infrastructure” and that the investment helps build a stronger Canada. British Columbia’s Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction Sheila Malcolmson highlighted the partnership’s role in creating pathways to good jobs.

Executive Director France Lamontagne of Kamloops Immigrant Services expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, noting the community’s need for qualified early childhood educators.
