Federal High Court nullifies Zamfara North APC senatorial primary

The Federal High Court in Gusau has nullified the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Zamfara North Senatorial District. Justice Hassan Dikko ruled that the party failed to adhere to its own constitution and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines during the May 19 direct primaries.

The court ordered the APC to conduct a fresh primary election for the senatorial seat within 14 days. The judgment follows a lawsuit filed by Dr. Abdullahi Shinkafi, who challenged the validity of the previous outcome, alleging irregularities and non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2022.

Following the ruling, Shinkafi expressed satisfaction, stating the decision restored confidence in the judiciary. Counsel for the defendant, Senator Sahabi Ya’u, indicated they would consult with their client but noted the judgment provides a window for participation in the upcoming fresh primaries.
