Federal Highway 57 projects face delays and regulatory hurdles

Infrastructure projects on Mexico's Federal Highway 57 are facing delays and administrative hurdles. In Querétaro, Beatriz Hernández Rojas, president of COPARMEX, expressed hope that works near the Cuesta China section will conclude by October 15. She criticized the lack of information provided to local authorities and citizens, noting that delays have caused increased costs for the productive sector, including higher transport expenses and industrial production interruptions.

In a separate development regarding the highway's Los Chorros segment in Coahuila, Federal Deputy Jericó Abramo Masso reported that while the executive project to rectify the road's layout is 100% complete, the project awaits environmental authorization from the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat). The Secretariat previously rejected a technical study, requiring the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) to resubmit documentation for land-use changes in forest areas. Officials estimate environmental procedures could be resolved by the end of 2026, with budget management targeted for 2027.
