Federal judge blocks Trump administration's immigration processing freeze

U.S. District Judge Algenon Marbley issued a preliminary injunction halting the Trump administration’s policy that suspended work‑authorisation and green‑card processing for applicants from several countries, including Burma, Canada, Iran, Nigeria, Syria, Tanzania and Venezuela. The court ordered the government to resume processing the pending applications, finding the administration lacked statutory authority for an open‑ended freeze and suggesting the policy may have been driven by discriminatory motives, citing President Trump’s past remarks about “shithole countries” and Vice President JD Vance’s comments about Haitian immigrants.

Separately, Vice President JD Vance claimed that stopping illegal immigration under the Trump administration has begun to lower U.S. home prices, referencing a Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas study that linked unauthorized immigrant worker flows to higher housing costs during the 2021‑2024 period.
