Federal judges keep Trump anti‑weaponization fund on hold
U.S. District Judges have maintained injunctions that block the Trump administration’s proposed $1.8 billion “anti‑weaponization” fund. Judge Richard Leon denied a temporary restraining order, saying the issue was moot after Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the fund would not move forward, but he kept the case open for further rulings. In a separate order, Judge Leonie Brinkema extended an existing injunction indefinitely, stating that “the government’s mootness argument doesn’t go anywhere.” The Department of Justice has asked the court to dismiss the lawsuit, citing Blanche’s statements, while plaintiffs argue that the fund has never been formally rescinded and could be revived. Both rulings represent a legal victory for advocacy groups challenging the secretive fund, which has attracted bipartisan criticism and has not yet disbursed any money.
