Federal Mortgage Bank headquarters blaze damages Abuja building

A fire erupted on Saturday at the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria's headquarters in Abuja, starting on the fourth floor and quickly spreading to the upper levels of the multi‑storey building opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria. Federal Fire Service personnel and other emergency agencies responded, battling the flames for several hours to prevent further spread.

The cause of the blaze has not been determined, and officials have not reported any injuries or confirmed the extent of damage to the bank's facilities, equipment or records. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement, leaving uncertainty about potential disruptions to the bank's mortgage‑financing operations, which are central to Nigeria's affordable‑housing programme.
