Iprev pension institute investigation targets R$ 97 million Banco Master investments FAST-MOVING

The Federal Police (PF) and the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU) are conducting investigations into alleged financial irregularities involving the Maceió Public Servants Pension Institute (Iprev) and Banco Master. The probe focuses on approximately R$ 97 million in investments made by Iprev into Banco Master between 2023 and 2024.

Authorities suspect that the consultancy firm Crédito & Mercado may have improperly assumed administrative duties of Iprev to facilitate these investments. Supreme Court Minister André Mendonça authorized eight search and seizure warrants in Alagoas and São Paulo, including orders to freeze the assets of six suspects up to a limit of R$ 97 million. The investigation is examining potential crimes such as fraudulent management, money laundering, and criminal organization.

Iprev has stated that all investment actions followed legal and administrative procedures, noting that the institute's assets grew from R$ 400 million in 2021 to over R$ 1.6 billion. While the PF requested the removal of certain public managers, Minister Mendonça denied these requests, citing a lack of concrete evidence that their continued presence poses a risk to the investigation.
