Federal Police superintendents support leadership amid STF crisis

Regional superintendents from the Brazilian Federal Police (PF) in 25 states and the Federal District have issued a joint manifesto supporting Director-General Andrei Rodrigues and Intelligence Director Leandro Almada da Costa. The document defends the institution's autonomy and rejects accusations against the leaders, describing their management as characterized by “seriousness, balance, and commitment.”

The support follows a period of legal turbulence within the Supreme Federal Court (STF). Minister André Mendonça had previously ordered the preventive removal of both officials due to suspicions of illegal monitoring of authorities. However, Minister Flávio Dino subsequently ordered their immediate reinstatement. The STF President, Edson Fachin, has since suspended the conflicting decisions and requested that the Director-General provide clarifications.

Despite the institutional crisis and high digital exposure—exceeding 69 million mentions—data from Ativaweb DataLab indicates that public perception remains largely positive. Between September 1 and 10, approximately 82.3% of social media interactions regarding the Federal Police were favorable, with discussions shifting toward themes of institutional competence and autonomy.
