Federal Police target deputy Cezinha de Madureira in influence peddling probe

The Brazilian Federal Police (PF) launched the third phase of ‘Operação Transparência’ on September 14, targeting federal deputy and pastor Cezinha de Madureira (PL-SP) for suspected crimes including influence peddling, corruption, and money laundering.

The investigation, which stems from a probe into irregularities in the allocation of parliamentary amendments, involves search and seizure warrants executed in São Paulo and the Distrito Federal. Authorities allege that members of the group negotiated large payments from third parties, claiming they could influence the outcomes of ongoing judicial processes.

Cezinha de Madureira is accused of using his proximity to Supreme Federal Court (STF) ministers to mediate interests. The investigation also involves his wife, Valéria Rodrigues Linhares. While the operation was authorized by STF Minister Flávio Dino, the Federal Police emphasized that there is no evidence indicating the direct participation of members of the Judiciary in the alleged illegal activities.
